Tim Mason

Tim Mason – President

Tim, 20, is studying Arts/Law at the University of Queensland. Tim is excited about leading an energetic and passionate UNYA Queensland team. Tim hopes to continue to increase the quality of educational events and activities available for students in Brisbane and to continue developing initiatives for students from regional areas. Tim enjoys soccer, rock climbing and Japanese.

Jules Moxon – Vice President (Education)

Jules is in his third year of Economics/Law at the University of Queensland. Prior to being elected to the Education position, he served as Secretary for UNYA Queensland. Jules is very excited about initiating UNYA Queensland’s program of school visits, in addition to organising at least one day forum in his term on the executive. His interests are obscure non-fiction, mooting, politics and history.

BethPhilipson

Beth Philipson – Vice President (Education)

Beth, 19, has been involved in UNYA since 2007. As part of her policy vision Beth plans to represent the voices of young people by facilitating discussion and sharing ideas, thoughts and contentious issues within the topic of Development. Beth is in her second year of Arts/Science, majoring in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies and Biomedical Science.

Stefanie Garber – Secretary / Convenor of 2009 Hammarskjold Security Council Competition / Director of PACMUN 2010

Stef, 21, enthusiastically coordinates the bond between UNYA and the public, establishing better communication with our mailing list, our egroup and our school contacts. As the Secretary is often the first point of contact with the organisation, Stef wants to ensure that every person who contacts UNYA leaves the encounter feeling welcomed, valued and better informed. Stef is also in her third year of Law/Arts at the University of Queensland.

Laura-MayForman

Laura-May Forman – Treasurer / Education Officer / Co-convenor of Queensland Schools Summit 2010

Laura-May ‘Skip’, 18, is excited to continue UNYA’s amazing work, through school visits, expanding the Schools Summit and exploring new areas through regional engagement. She is excited to hear from as many young people as possible and continue to provide a forum for youth expression, empowerment and education. Her interests are international affairs, travelling and vegetarian food.

TomasHeard

Tomas Heard – Policy Officer / National Grants Coordinator

Tom, 19, is bringing a fresh approach to policy for 2009. He is eager to exercise his passion for investigating and debating the big issues. ‘The great thing about UNYA is that I can then take my conclusions a step further and lobby politicians on behalf of young people!’ He is also excited to help UNYA Australia raise money, which will assist as many young Australian’s as possible.

Tom is studying Science/Economic at the University of Queensland, and has interests in politics, rowing and is a proud ex-mathlete champion.

LilyBentley

Lily Bentley – Convenor of 2009 Townsville Youth Forum / Regional Engagement Officer

Lily, 18, is enthusiastically planning to reach out across the state to meet and network with young people who aren't based in the Brisbane area. Her first project is the Townsville Youth Forum, this October, and hopefully in the next 6 months, trips to Cairns and Outback Queensland. Lily is so excited to bring the opportunities that can stem from involvement in UNYA to students from regional Queensland, and offer them an experience they just won't get anywhere else. Lily will begin Law/Arts at the University of Queensland in 2010, after having a gap year and travelling around the US.

MaddiObst

Maddi Obst – Media and Communications Officer / Youth Representative Coordinator / Co-convenor of Queensland Schools Summit 2010

Maddi, 17, is currently studying first year Journalism at the University of Queensland. Maddi is planning to further promote UNYA Queensland in the local media and strengthen media relationships to make sure the voices of young people are heard! She is also excited to assist UNYA Australia in selecting a Youth Representative for 2010. Maddi is also looking forward to co-convening Queensland Summit and bringing fresh and innovative ideas to inspire the young of Queensland. Her interests are AFL, Human Rights and Alice in Wonderland.
